Lots of fun in Reception

We have had a busy first week back at school. We brought in our home competitions for the Eisteddfod and celebrated the winners and we performed for our parents. We had great fun.

It was pancake day and we learnt all about Shrove Tuesday and we made pancakes and enjoyed eating them with lots of sugar and chocolate spread yum yum!

This term our topic is Dragon Tales and we love playing in our castle and dressing up.

Reception class worked in groups to make a castle out of big blocks or small blocks. Each group had to explain to another group what they had made and name the different parts of their castle, it had to include a drawbridge, keep, bailey and an outer wall.

We had to be imaginative and pretend to be flying dragons and roaring dragons. We wrote down lots of wow words and wrote a description about a dragon. We are listening to lots of stories and poems about dragons and played a great game of knights trying to stop the dragons taking the princesses and lady knights had to stop dragons taking the princes!

We have been creative in Reception

We have been busy in Reception and using our imaginations. We made up a story called The Big Hole and we had to think of a beginning, middle and end. In all our stories we had an adventure, some of us went to Chocolate Land, Princess Land and Action Man Land. We all read out our stories to the class.
We have been busy thinking and looking at maps. We had to follow a map in the hall and listen to directional language to reach our destination. We created our own maps and write out the instructions for others to follow.
For the Eisteddfod we have been practising our song, recitation and dance. We are looking forward to performing in front of the whole school.
In PE we have been learning to play lots of games, Stuck in the Mud, Billy Goats Gruff and Dodge ball.

We have been learning about animals that live in holes and in our sand area we made dens, holes and hiding places for the dinosaurs.

Mrs Gray kindly brought in worms from her garden and in class we made a wormery and now we can observe the worms.

Have a lovely break Reception Class

Lots of fun in Nursery

We celebrated the Chinese  New Year by making cards and goldfish. We made a dragon and did a dragon dance. Our role-play area became a Chinese restaurant and we cooked and ate Chinese food yum yum!

We went outside and built lots of dens. We then sat in our dens and thought of lots of words to describe them.

We have been looking at animals that live in holes. We listened to the story of 'A New House for Mouse'. We sequenced the story, acted it out and wrote and drew pictures of our favorite part of the book.

Reception are having a 'hole' of a time

We have looked around our school and the village looking for holes. We had great fun and found holes in interesting places.

As part of our creative development we looked at the artist Barbra Hepworth. She has made many sculptures with holes in and we were inspired to do the same.

We had a visit from another Mrs Jones and she played Welsh games with us it was BENDIGEDIG

We learnt about the Chinese New Year, it is the year of the horse. We made dragons, ate prawn crackers and did a dragon dance with a dragon, it was great fun.
